In other words…chocolate oatmeal. OMG the fact that I have not made this sooner is so sad, this oatmeal is so good! Oatmeal is one of the few things I can actually make really well, and I love finding new ways to make it. I’ve always seen pictures of cacao oatmeal, but I’ve never actually tried it. Well, yesterday I decided to change that, and let me tell you, it was a wonderful discovery.
I topped this oatmeal off with peanut butter, banana, and hemp seeds. I mean, peanut butter and chocolate are possibly the greatest combination in the world, so I knew it couldn’t be that bad. Aside from a few small mistakes, overall, this was a super easy and yummy oatmeal experiment. I ended up using a bit too much cacao powder which led to a slightly bitter taste, but I’m going to give you the measurements I think would be better.
What you need…
1/2 cup old fashioned oats
1/2 cup milk and 1/2 cup water combined
1 tsp vanilla extract
a little more than 1/2 Tbsp cacao or cocoa powder*
1 tsp peanut butter
sprinkle of hemp seeds
1 Tbsp peanut butter
Pour the water and milk mixture into a small saucepan and bring it to a boil on low to medium heat. Once boiling pour the oat in and stir. Then take 1/2 of your banana break off bits of it and put into pan. Mash the banana into the oats so it isn’t so chunky. Then add your vanilla extract, cacao powder, and peanut butter and stir. Let cook for 5-7 minutes then serve in a bowl. Top with toppings and enjoy!
*I used a full tablespoon of cacao powder and found it to be a tad too much so I think 1/2 or a little more than 1/2 tbsp would be better!
Let me know how yours turns out!
